Read Out during Banned Books Week

The Sherrill Library will host a "Read Out" from 12 p.m. –; 6 p.m.  Thursday, September 30th in the atrium of the library on the Brattle Campus, in observance of Banned Books Week. This annual event is sponsored by the American Library Association to celebrate our Freedom to Read. Observed since 1982, this event reminds us not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted. It promotes the Freedom to Read, as well as reminding us of the insidious nature of censorship in our schools, public and academic libraries.

All members of the EDS and Lesley communities are invited to participate in our "Read Out.” Sign up for a ten-minute slot and read a selection from your favorite banned or challenged book, sign our banner, and enjoy listening  to show your support for intellectual freedom.
The library has many of the books on ALA 's lengthy list of challenged and banned books to choose from.  The sign-up sheet is now available at the circulation desk. You may also call the desk at 349-8850. Please contact Patricia Payne (ppayne@lesley.edu) with any questions.
